Naked Dumbledore
Why am I so amused by this? Wizard Swears is also funny. Dobby's sock.
Ron Paul
Some of his ideas are a little strange, and I would be nervous if he were elected, but I know I'm not the only one who is happy that he is there, bringing a little sanity to a party that seems to have none. You hear him say something like "Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11." That might be the truest thing that was said at the Reagan Library all night, yet it was ignored by all of the other candidates. They have to know it's true. Why can't they just admit it?
Winter Wonder Land
These are some cell phone pictures of the snowfall over the last few days. That's my snow covered car there in the center.
My apartment building.
Boycott the Olympics?
It probably wouldn't make a difference, but it sure doesn't seem like things are getting better in China.
Channel [V]
This is the best news I've gotten since returning from Asia. My favorite TV station from Taiwan, Channel [V] is available on YouTube. I never really understood anything that was happening, which was why it was fun to watch. It's just the same kids everyday, standing around doing stupid things. Sometimes they dance, sometimes they sing, and at other times they cry (very entertaining). Listen to this guy speak English to the boys of Take That. It will give you a good idea of what it was like to be approached by random people on the street eager to practice English. I'm not making fun of them, because I'm sure that's what I sound like when I speak Spanish, and even worse when I'm trying to speak Chinese.
And one more for good measure. A Taiwanese boy band that I believe ripped off the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.
Convictions Transcend Party Lines
Just when you're about to lose hope in all politicians, one stands up for something he believes in regardless of how popular that stance is.

5 years ago, make a small mistake, and a few people knew. In 2007, mix up your words, and a kid in Azerbaijan gets a laugh out of it.
Interesting Ad
I was a little surprised by the company name at the end. It seems better suited for a non-profit organization.
Two Videos
The first is a video from a Christians United for Israel conference. It shows a frightening marriage between Christianity. John Hagee calls for a preemptive strike on Iran, and then has a member of the press removed for asking difficult questions. I'm sure there were many good, sincere people at the conference, but they have obviously been led astray by greedy unscrupulous leaders like John Hagee.
And because the first video is so disturbing, I promise that the second one is just funny. I saw it on The Daily Dish. I'll embed it here:
Bill Clinton speaks at Harvard's 2007 Class Day
If you have a few minutes,(about 30)listen to this speech given by Bill Clinton just last week. Why is it that only after they leave office can our politicians become reasonable, compassionate, thoughtful people. You see it happen again and again. Maybe its because they no longer have to rely on the support of lobbyists and the funding of corporations. If any candidate could speak with such candor and sincerity now, I would really take the time to listen to that person. I am excited for change in the white house, but none of the candidates really stir me. They are all in their own way pandering to the people who they feel can get them the most votes.
Politics aside, listen to what he has to say, forgetting what it is you feel towards him and his presidency.

Performance Day
Yesterday was performance day for one of my classes. This is one of my favorite classes. The video is of them practicing before their parents arrived.
Benny Hinn
Thank you thank you youtube for daily dishing out entertainment to me in 3-minute portions. And thank you , Kevin the Cool Guy for linking to this video on your blog. This had me laughing outloud while watching it sitting in Match Cafe. Is it sacrilegious? I'm not sure if anyone could make a bigger mockery of his ministry than the man himself who, Wikipedia points out: lives in an ocean-front mansion valued at an estimated $8.5 million in an exclusive gated community in Dana Point, California, travels by private aircraft, and stays in hotel rooms costing upwards of $3,000 per night. In December 2006, he sent out a mailing asking for donations towards a new Gulfstream G4SP jet valued at an estimated $36 million.
Tainan
Yesterday, David and I headed south with our friend Ariel to visit Tainan. This trip was about food and history, and the former more than the latter. Here is a photo tour of the day. This was our first meal. I'm not sure what is was called, or what it was. It was sticky and covered in gravy, and it was good.
For our next meal, we had sticky rice dumplings. I am told this is a traditional food eaten during Dragon Boat Festival. It's glutinous rice wrapped in bamboo leaves with various ingredients. The ones from this restaurant must be exceptional because Ariel's mom had her bring home 15.
In between meals, we visited some historic sites. This was the AnPing Fort, I think. The Dutch colonized Taiwan back in the 1600's, and then were kicked out years later by Mainland China. This sculpture was aptly titled "The subjugation of the Dutch". The fort that the dutch built was later named something like "Building of the red-bearded barbarians". There is also a diorama in the museum depicting some Dutch people graciously bowing to a Chinese emperor and agreeing to leave Taiwan. I guess the winners always get to depict history from their point of view, right?
And then more food. This is called a Coffin Cake. It seemed a lot like chicken pot pie to me. Nothing particularly Taiwanese about it.
At last, the famed Oyster Omelet. Its exactly what it says it is. By this time I was tired of foods with gooey textures.
After dark, we went to the night market. This is a picture of the night market from a distance
This is soap, with a toy inside. Could it get any more Asian cutesy?
This is a red bean cake in the shape of a fish.
A big stewing cauldron of chicken feet. I did not partake. Two very cute piglets. Again, I did not partake. I was going to buy one, but it squealed when I touched it, and so did I. Not a good quality for a pet or a snack.
And last, a video walk through the night market.
Chinese Class
This is a video taken during Chinese class this Tuesday. Hopefully you don't speak Chinese and will be wowed by the unintelligible sounds. Cast of characters include students, Elena, David (laughter in the background), and me. Our Laoshi (teacher) is the lovely Yi-Chieh.
